Collierville High School 2010 Sectional Champions
By: Jason Smith/Commercial Appeal
Collierville High senior Cameron Finch didn't know how many pitches he had thrown Friday night. He didn't care either.
"It was a lot," answered Finch, just moments after pitching the Dragons to a 3-1 Class AAA sectional victory over host Arlington.
Finch's 125-pitch, complete-game performance helped catapult Collierville (35-7) to next week's Class AAA state tournament in Murfreesboro. The 6-0, 170-pound right-hander allowed six hits and struck out five batters in improving to 8-1 this season.
"He didn't have his best stuff tonight because he didn't have his sink and curveball until about the fifth (inning)," Collierville coach Jeff Hopkins said of Finch, who also walked five batters. "In the fifth inning, he got stronger. What a heart he's got. The heart of a champion."

It would seem to be the ultimate good news-bad news situation for Houston after taking the Region 8-AAA tournament baseball championship with a 6-2 win at Collierville Wednesday night.
Good news was the plaque, and a home sectional game Friday. Bad news? Coming to call will be the same Bartlett team that has knocked the Mustangs out in the sectional round the past two seasons. Arlington’s 12-2 Region 7 championship whipping set up the pairing.
But that’s down the road. The Mustangs (29-12) savored a night where they reversed last week’s District 15 loss to the Dragons (34-7) – and got a few key parts and pieces cranked up in time for the next round.
