Dragon Baseball Sets Highest Team GPA in fall semester

Joseph Stovall and Lane Ferrell pace Dragons with 4.0
The Collierville baseball team posted a 3.3 grade-point average (GPA) and landed 17 student-athletes above 3.5 during the fall semester, setting the highest single-semester mark established by the program as grades were released Wednesday.
Senior outfielder/pitcher Lane Ferrell and Junior infielder/outfielder Joseph Stovall earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. Thirty-four of the 44-man roster had a 3.0 or higher.
The Dragon baseball team opens the 2010 baseball season at the Lewis Harris Memorial Classic (Mar. 15-20) in Memphis. The first home game at Dragon Field will be against Bartlett March 30. The Dragons' schedule features 35 games, including contests against top teams from throughout Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Kentucky.

Registration will start at 3:30 p.m. at the Dragon

Baseball America lists Zack Cozart #10 Prospect for Cincinnati Reds

Zack Cozart
Collierville High School graduate Zack Cozart has recently been named the #10 overall prospect in the Cincinnati Reds organization by Baseball America. The former Dragon shortstop was selected by Cincinnati in the second round of the 2007 June amateur draft out of The University of Mississippi.
Cozart skipped high A and went straight to AA last season. If he can continue to demonstrate the same bat and glove at Triple A Louisville this season, he could find himself in the big leagues very soon.
Baseball America has him projected as the Reds everyday shortstop in 2013.

Former Dragon Drew Pomeranz tabbed pre-season collegiate All-America

Former Collierville High ace Drew Pomeranz has been named as an All-America selection by collegiate baseball. The Ole Miss junior left-hander posted an 8-4 record a year ago on the way to All-SEC honors. He struck out 124 batters on the year and posted a 3.40 ERA, second among all returning pitchers in the SEC in both categories.
He also tossed two complete games on the year - a win over No. 20 Florida on the road and a win over Western Kentucky in the NCAA Regional Championship game. Pomeranz also struck out 16 batters and allowed only one unearned run in the win over the Hilltoppers to send Ole Miss to a third Super Regional in the last four years.

Mean Green Fighting Machines hit lottery jackpot with 1st pick
On Monday, the Collierville Dragon seniors held their annual draft for the Dragon Challenge, a physical fitness strength and speed competition, scheduled for Saturday February 13th at 10am.
Cameron Finch, general manager of Finch Mean Green Fighting Machines, had the first pick and selected Joseph Stovall. Also taken in the first round were; Caleb Delee (Sanderlin Slackers), Tyler Dailey (Hunter Bears), Bryce Blackburn (Wargo Baloos), Tyler Lawrence (Hiatt Pumas), Tucker Tubbs (Ferrell Force), Tyler Dixon (Elder Grimlins) and Kevin Hall (Shoenrock Shockers).
Teams will compete for the challenge title in pull-ups, leg press, towel bench press, tug of war, sand bag carry, 300 shuttle medley relay and conclude with an obstacle course.
Clarke Warriors, led by former Dragon Brendan Clarke, took home the 2009 championship.

Senior Lane Ferrell and the Dragons are set to face tough competition in 2010
The Collierville Dragons continue to strength train and condition to prepare for the upcoming season as they released their 2010 schedule Saturday.
The Dragons will play 24 of their 35 games on the road this season. The home opener is scheduled for Wednesday, March 30, against Bartlett.
Collierville opens the season with the annual Lewis Harris Memorial Tournament in the Memphis area (March 15 - 20). Other tournaments the Dragons will compete in 2010 are the St. Benedict Invitational (March 23 - 27), The Warrior Classic in the Murfressboro area (April 2-3), and The Sequatchie Valley Classic in the Chattanooga area (April 30 - May 2). The schedule is highlighted by a trip to Cullman, Alabama for a three-game challenge against highly ranked Cullman High School, Murfreesboro Riverdale High School and Grissom (AL) High School.
The Houston, Germantown rivals weekend is set for April 15-17.

was selected by Baseball Factory Scouts to play in the Arizona
Senior Fall

his performance at an Under Armour National Tryout. The Fall
Classic was held October 14 – 19 at
the Peoria Sports Complex in Phoenix, AZ.
Finch pitched against the Las Vegas Scout team and the Southern
California Mariners Scout team. The right-hander
allowed one hit and recorded three strike outs in six
innings of work.

Collierville senior Erik Schoenrock has chosen
to continue his education and play baseball next year at The
University of Memphis. The 6'2, 175 LHP is currently playing
for the Kansas City Royals scout team this fall. Schoenrock
becomes the first of a highly touted class of 2010 to make
his college decision. He chose to play for the Tigers over
Middle Tennessee State.

joined the CHS baseball staff. Stambaugh
was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals out of Brigham Young
University in the 25th

of the June
2007
First-Year Player Draft.
In 2007, the left-hander appeared in 17 games
and made nine starts in his professional debut with Short-Season
Batavia
in the
New
York-Penn League, firing three hitless frames in his debut
on June 21 against Auburn. Stambaugh earned his first career
save with four scoreless innings and four strikeouts against
State
College
on June 25 and notched his first career win with 2 1/3 shutout
frames against Lowell on July 12. He went 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA
in 10 road appearances in his first year of professional baseball.
In 2008, Stambaugh went 2-5 with one save and
a 6.43 ERA in 15 appearances -- four starts -- with Class A
Quad

Midwest League. He struck out a season-high seven in three
scoreless innings to pick up the win on April 4. On April 27,
Stambaugh tossed four shutout

to pick up the save.
He was the recipient of the Drew Lawrence Memorial

winning Pool D of the University of Alabama Showcase. Cameron
Finch defeated the Bama Bombers in the last game of the summer
to improve his record to 5-1.Rising sophomore catcher Kevin
Hall homered for Collierville. The 17U Dragons finished the
summer
22-11.
The 16U Dragons finished in fourth place at the
Dixie World Series in Ozark, AL. Kyle Beard had two home runs
to lead the Dragons to a 9-1 victory over Carroll County, Virginia
in game one. Tyler Dailey hit a grand slam to lead Collierville
over Statham,
Georgia 9-6 in their second game.
In game three, the dragons were 6-0 winners over Petal, Mississippi
behind a complete game shutout by Wes Evers. The Dragons were
defeated by Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana 6-1 and
eliminated
by North Charleston, South Carolina 2-1. .

Tyler Dailey led an 11-hit Collierville offensive
attack and Tucker Tubbs added two hits in leading the Dragons
to a 10-5 victory over the Alabama Rockets Friday in the
University of Alabama Showcase.
After falling behind 3-0 in the first innings,
Collierville scored four runs in the second inning to take
a 4-3 and didn't look back. Erik Schoenrock (2-0) earned the
win.
The Dragons will conclude the summer against
the Bama Bombers at Sewell-Thomas Stadium on the campus of
the University of Alabama. Game time is set for 11:30am Saturday.

Schoenrock was the winning pitcher in relief. The senior left-hander
returned to the game mound for the first time since July 2008.

All victories were by the 10-run rule. The Dragons ended the

Ole Miss signee Jordan Coooper threw a gutsy
three-hitter against Collierville to end the Dragons season
at 34-11. The 10-0,
run-rule win at Oakland High
sent the Admirals to another state championship as Farragut then
defeated Mt. Juliet for the title, 2-1.
“I knew we were in trouble when we fell
behind 5-0,” said Jeff Hopkins. “Their pitcher
(Cooper), he's a dominating guy.”
Collierville was defeated 3-1 by Farragut
on day one of the double elimination state tournament.
The Dragons eliminated Independence High School, 11-1 and
Blackman High School, 5-3.to finish in the top four in the
AAA bracket.

Senior Casey Willer delivered a game winning
two-run single in the top of the seventh to lead Collierville
past
Houston 6-5 in the Region 8-AAA title match Wednesday. Hayden
Allen (2-0) was the winning pitcher, throwing the sixth and
seventh innings for the Dragons. Allen relieved Cameron Finch
who was
strong through five innings of work.
The Dragons took a 4-0 lead on RBI singles by
Brandon Milhouse, Tyler Dailey, Tucker Tubbs and Willer. Houston
battled back, but Collierville prevailed the win.
The win gives the Dragons home field advantage
in Sectional play Friday at 7:00pm. Collierville
(31-9) will host Region 7-AAA runner up Arlington and Houston
(26-12) will travel to Region 7-AAA champion Bartlett. Winners
advance to the state tournament in Murfreesboro.

Germantown 11-0 in Distric 15-AAA Varsity tournament action
Monday night.
Sophomore Tyler Dailey improved
to 5-1 as he allowed one hit and struck out eight over 5
innings of work to earn the
victory. Fellow sophomore Tucker Tubbs had two hits including
a grand slam home run in the third inning to lead the Dragon
offensive attack. Senior Brandon Milhouse had two hits
and two RBI and senior Evan Frazier had an RBI double to
contribute.
The Dragons are now 28-7 and will play Houston
Wednesday at 7pm in the winners bracket of the tournament.
All games are at Houston High School.
Junior Varsity Hammers Red Devils
The Junior Varsity baseball Dragons defeated Germantown 9-2
in the JV Memphis Regional Tournament at Collierville High
School Monday. Stephen Salamon was the winner pitcher improving
his record to 4-1. Justin Berard earned his first save coming
in with a 4-2 lead and the bases loaded with two outs in the
5th inning and getting a strike out.
The Dragons were led offensively by Grant Smith, Bryce Blackburn,
Wes Evers and Will Austin who each had two hits.

Milhouse signed a national letter of intent Tuesday to continue
his education and baseball career at Arkansas State University.
The 6'2" left-handed first
basemen and pitcher was a 2008 Commercial Appeal Best of
the Preps
selection and a 2008 West Tennessee TBCA showcase selection.
Milhouse helped lead Collierville to a 26-game win streak
in 2008 and his current Dragon squad is ranked No. 1 in the
state.

Collierville High School pounded out eleven hits in route
to a 12-1 victory over Southwind in District 15 action Tuesday.
On senior night, the Dragons erupted for a 7-0 lead they would
never look back on. Seniors Brandon Milhouse and
Casey Willer led the Dragons with 2 hits each. Milhouse added
four RBI's. Daymon Eriksen (1-1) earned the win.
The Dragons begin post-season play in the District 15 tournmanet

Arlington Contest
The Junior Varisty Dragons defeated Cordova
10-0 and lost to Arlington 10-2 Tuesday. The younger Dragons
are 20-12 overall and will begin play in the JV Memphis Regional

and Munford at 1:00pm at Dragon Field.

team defeated White Station 9-1 Monday. Sanderlin threw six

Senior Evan Frazier hit
his 5th home run Tuesday
The Collierville Dragons defeated Kirby Tuesday in District
15 play 23-0. Austin Woods threw a no-hitter and improved his
record to 2-0 on the year. The junior right-hander had eight
strikeouts. Evan Frazier homered for the Dragons, his fifth
round-tripper of the year. The Dragons are now 21-6.
Junior Varsity falls to Tigers
Arlington defeated the Dragons 12-8 in junior
varsity play Tuesday at Dragon Field. The younger Dragons
fall to 17-9.

Senior Brendan Clarke hit
his fourth home run Thursday
The Collierville Dragons scored in every inning, but the second,
to defeat district foe Germantown 11-3 Thursday at Red Devil
Field. Senior Brendan Clarke and Sophomore Tucker Tubbs
homered for the Dragons. Sophomore Tyler Dailey improved his
record
to
4-1.
The Dragons
are now 18-5 on the year.
Junior Varsity Drops 5-4 Decision
Christian Brothers High School scored two runs
in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead they would hold in
defeating the Collierville JV Thursday. Joseph Stovall had
two hits
for the Dragons. Freshman Stephen Salamon (1-1) suffered
the loss. Junior Jake Garbuzinski was the
winning pitcher for Christian Brothers. The younger Dragons
are now 17-8.

Sophomore Tucker Tubbs had
9 hits over the Easter weekend
The Collierville Dragons went 3-1 over the Easter
weekend and improved to 17-5 on the year.
Brendan Clarke and Tucker
Tubbs had three hits and Tyler Dailey threw six innings of
shutout Baseball as the Dragons defeated Bartlett 8-0 Friday.
John Jordan added two hits. In the second game,
Austin Anderson improved his record to 6-0 and Cameron Finch
recorded his second save as Collierville defeated Hartselle,
Alabama 6-5. John Jordan had three hits, Tucker Tubbs added
two hits and Evan Frazier delivered a key two-run double.
On Saturday, Collierville was defeated by Cullman,
Alabama 8-5. Daymon Eriksen (0-1) made his first appearance
of the season and suffered the loss in relief. In game two
Saturday, the Dragons defeated University School of Jackson
6-4. Ethan Sanderlin improved to 4-0 and Austin Hiatt earned
his first save. Tucker Tubbs and Evan Frazier had two hits.

The Junior Varsity baseball Dragons defeated Germantown 14-3
Thursday April 9 and lost Friday April 10 to Houston 20-6.
The younger Dragons are 16-6.

start, is ranked No. 1 in the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association
poll released Tuesday.
Bearden is second followed by Farragut, Riverdale
and Arlington to round out the top five.

The Junior Varsity baseball team pushed their
winning streak to eight games Tuesday by taking two games against
Unity Illinois High School 12-4 and 15-0.
Jordan Boruff (3-0) and Cayson Ransom (1-0) brought
strong starting pitching and the Collierville bats supplied
plenty of hits. The Dragons are now 15-5 and play at Germantown
Thursday. Game time is 4:00pm

picked up his first Varsity win Monday
Collierville High School's Austin Woods, Lane
Ferrell, and Austin Hiatt combined for a one-hitter as the
Dragons defeated Overton 20-1. Woods picked
up his first Varsity win. John Jordan hit his third home run
of
the
season.
The
Dragons improve to 14-4 on the year and 2-0 in District 15.
Junior Varsity Defeats Illinois team
The Junior Varsity baseball Dragons defeated Unity Illinois
High School Monday night 14-2. Preston Myers earned his first
win as a Dragon and the team improved their record to 13-5.
Grant Smith had three hits to lead the Dragon offensive attack.
The
younger baseball Dragons are now winners of six straight.

The Junior Varsity baseball Dragons have now won five consecutive
games.
Friday CHS swept a double header from Arlington
11-6 and 3-2. In game one, the Dragons were led by Wes Evers.
The freshman right hander threw 6 2/3 innings not allowing
an earned run to improve his record to 2-0. Evers also had
three hits for the Dragons offensive attack. Kyle Beard had
three hits with two doubles and Joseph Stovall singled three
times.
In game two, it took nine innings for Collierville
to secure the win. Caleb DeLee was phenominal on the mound
going seven strong innings, but it was Jordan Boruff (2-0)
earning the win in relief. Cayson Ransom recorded his first
save as a Dragon. Bryce Blackburn had three hits, including
a game-winning RBI triple to score Grant Smith for the Dragons.
Saturday Collierville again used the run
rule to defeat Canada 10-0 at Houston High School. Justin Berard
(1-0) pitched a complete
game shut out to earn his first win as a Dragon. Will Austin
and Kevin Hall had two hits for CHS. Tyler Dixon hit his first
home run.
In game two, Collierville then defeated Houston 11-7.
Stephen Sanderlin (1-0) earned the win for the Dragons. Will
Austin, Tyler Dixon and Brad Milligan each had three hits to
pace an 18-hit hitting display. Kyle Beard, Kevin Hall and
Sanderlin had two hits.
The younger Dragons improve to 12-5 and will host a three-game
series with Unity (IL) High School Monday and Tuesday.

Memphis signee John Jordan
hit a grand slam versus CBHS
Collierville High School had a rude awakening Saturday morning
by the bats of Yucaipa (CA) High School. The Thunderbirds (11-0)
scored five runs in the first off Dragon hurler Tyle Dailey
(2-1) and never looked back. The
Dragons scored one in the first and four in the seventh.
CHS' bats came alive in their second game.
Collierville (13-4) used the slaughter rule to defeat Division
2 Christian Brothers 16-4. Ethan Sanderlin stayed perfect on
the mound by earning his third win of the year. John Jordan
led the offensive attack by hitting a grand slam home run.
Yucaipa claimed the USA Classic championship by defeating
Arlington 10-0 Saturday night.

Evan Frazier admittedly hasn't set any individual goals this
season for a Collierville baseball team that is among the Memphis
area's finest. His primary objective is help propel the Dragons
to the Class AAA state championship.

Tennesse Tech signees Evan Frazier and Austin Anderson again
teamed to lead Collierville to a 5-3 victory over Knoxville
Farragut in the Warrior Classic opener. Frazier homered twice
to center field and Anderson earned the win on the mound. Farragut
was ranked No. 1 nationally in Rivals.com High
School Poll and held the top spot in Perfect Game's latest
rankings.
Ethan Sanderlin continued to close doors, pitching 3 scoreless
innings to earn his third save of the year.
The Dragons (9-2) are set to return to action Saturday at
12:30pm vs. Science Hill and at 5:30pm versus the Riverdale
Warriors.

COLLIERVILLE, TN - Collierville senior
right-hander Daymon Eriksen has accepted a scholarship offer
from Division I Junior College, Northeast Mississippi Community
College.
Eriksen, who made big strides this summer for
the Dragons and participated on the TBCA All Region Team, had
offers
from a list of junior colleges in the mid-south.
As a junior for the Dragons, Eriksen was selected
as the teams Outstanding Pitcher. He is a three-year Varsity
member and
was named to The Commercial Appeals Best of the Preps
in 2008.
With a 6'3", 180 pound frame and a fastball
clocked at 87-88 MPH, Eriksen has the potential to be selected
in the Major League Baseball
Amateur
Draft in June. Area scouts will focus on his makeup this Spring.
He joins Dragon teammates John Jordan, Evan Frazier, and Austin
Anderson to commit early.

Warriors Take Home Dragon Challenge Title
COLLIERVILLE, TN - The
Collierville High School Baseball Team went through a
physical fitness team challenge Saturday and the results
are in: Taking home the 1st Annual Dragon Challenge title
were Clarkes Warriors.
The Warriors team was led by senior captain
Brendan Clarke and junior Cameron Finch; sophomores Steven
Sanderlin and Trevor Mills; and freshman Grant Smith.
They took 1st place in the Sand Bag Carry, Tractor Tire
Flips, 300 Yard Medley Relay, and the Obstacle Course.
The Milhouse Blues were champs in the final competition,
Tug-O-War, and placed second.
Individual awards went to Jim Sherman (Pull-Ups),
Stephen Sanderlin (Leg Press), Casey Willer (Bench Press),
and Brendan Clarke (Long Jump).
The Dragon Challenge concluded the baseball

High School senior left-handed hurler Austin Anderson
is the third member of the Class of 2009 to make his
college decision during the early signing period. Anderson
has committed to Tennessee Tech University. He will join
current teammate
Evan Frazier as a member of the Golden Eagles. The 2008
Dragons Most Improved Player was
also named to the USA High School Challenge
All-Tournament Team. Anderson chose Tennesse Tech over
Tennessee-Martin
and a list of junior colleges.

High School senior middle infielder John Jordan signed
his national letter
of intent with The
University of Memphis Thursday. Jordan was the Dragons
MVP in 2008 and was named 1st Team All-State
by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association and 2nd Team
by the Tennessee Baseball Coaches Association. He also
considered Tennessee Tech, Middle Tennessee State, Tennessee-Martin
and Austin Peay State University.

COLLIERVILLE, TN - Collierville
senior catcher/infielder Evan Frazier signed with Tennessee
Tech Thursday. The Golden Eagles coaching staff saw
him play this summer. Frazier was a TBCA 2008- Region
8 team member. He made a quick decision after his official
visit this fall. The three year varsity member chose
TTU over Murray State.
