This is my attempt to join the new millennium.
I realize that I am at least a decade behind all the technological wonder,
but Ill catch up. I have always been a bit slow out of the blocks,
but then, I am a long distance runner and understand the art of pacing.
I have included a few documents that may or may not mean anything to you.
My yearly syllabus is a rough guide that follows the Shelby County and Collierville
High School Curriculum Guide. I have included my class rules and procedures.
You will also find the outside reading list for this year. A hard copy will
be sent home on the first day of school.
As soon as I complete the refresher session during teacher's in-service and
remember how to amend this web site, I will update it. As it
becomes old
hat,
like
using
e-mail,
etc,
I
will
update
the
site weekly
or perhaps even daily to include assignments, test dates, homework, and such.
In the meantime I am very proud to have put this much together, so be patient.
Laugh at me or with me, but
be patient nevertheless.
I am not a complete cave dweller!
I know how to use e-mail, and unlike SOME
friends of mine, I check it often.
However, I only check my email
during the school day. I don't take my computer to basketball or track
practice. If you
send an email after 2:00, I will not see it until 7:00 the following morning.

possibly can. The logical time to expect a returned call during the

Class Rules and Procedures
English 151 (Freshmen) and English 451 (Seniors)
Collierville High
Room 158
Dear students, parents, and guardians:
I look forward to a successful year. Below you will find a list of rules you need to be aware of. Please read them, sign, and return the bottom portion of this form to me by Friday of the first week or school. This will be the first posted grade in my class. Keep the rest of the form, and use it as the first page in your looseleaf notebook. Thanks, and welcome back to school.
1. Be in your seat when the tardy bell rings.
You will be given a detention slip for not being in your assigned seat when the bell rings unless you have a note from a teacher or an administrator. Sit down and begin work. Under no circumstances are you admitted to class when you have been absent from school without an office issued admit. If you have to leave the room to get your admit, you will be marked tardy. Dont be hanging around the door, pencil sharpener, or the teachers desk when the bell rings. Missing class time will affect your grade.
2. Be prepared to participate and earn a grade daily.
Upon entering the classroom, sit in your seat, get out your homework, and begin
the bell work on the board. You do not need to wait until the tardy bell to
begin. You should bring both of your textbooks, your notebook, and a
pen to class each day. You will use a black ink pen and white, standard-lined,
loose leaf, notebook paper. (no college-ruled or ragged edged paper)
3. Do not get out of your seat without permission.
Always raise your hand for approval before standing. Also, the teacher dismisses, not the bell.
4. Be courteous and respectful.
This includes speaking while someone else is speaking. Always raise your hand for approval before speaking. Keep your hands and feet to yourself at all times. The room is to be kept free of litter. Defacing property and using others possessions without permission will not be allowed.
5. Do not ask to leave the room.
You will not be allowed to go to the restroom, office, library, another teachers room, etc. Missing class will affect your grades.
6. Do not bring food, drink, or gum to class.
7. Complete all assignments.
It is your responsibility to make up any work you miss when you have an excused absence from school. You have one day for every day you missed to make up work. If your absences is unexcused, dont ask the teacher what you missed. Since I coach basketball and track, I will have to work around my practice and game schedule on an individual basis. See me after class to schedule a make-up exam. Late homework is a zero. Work turned in late is 50% off per day late.
8. Understand that all actions have consequences.
A single violation of one of the rules listed above will result in your name being noted by the teacher. Consider it a warning. A second violation during a six-weeks will result in disciplinary action complying with school policy. Further violations will lead to more severe penalties, and will always result in a parent call. This list is not all inclusive. Please familiarize yourself with your Parent-Student Handbooks, both Shelby County Schools and Collierville Highs.
------------------------------------Cut---------------------------
I understand and agree to follow Coach Yates classroom rules and procedures stated above. I also understand that failure to follow these rules will affect my grades and may result in further disciplinary action.
