Welcome to Mrs. Stambaugh's Junior English class!

 English 351

2008/2009

Dear Student and Parents,

You have made it to your JUNIOR year, and having a successful year begins today! I would like to go over a few things that you will need to know in order to have a successful JUNIOR year.

This course is the study of American literature. It is taught in chronological, historical order. As a student you are expected to attend class consistently, be prepared, take notes, and interact in a productive and positive manner. You will keep an English notebook and a bell work spiral which will hold both grammar and journal writings.

Throughout the year we will be doing many types of writing assignments. You will be expected to keep a portfolio which will be a collection of two semesters of your writings and revisions.

Class Assignments

When you arrive in class, bell work will be on the overhead. You will begin work immediately.

A calendar of assignments will be on my web page. Record specific assignments and due dates in your CHS Agenda book.

If you are absent, it is your responsibility to keep track of assignments from my web page so that all work can be kept up to date. Make-up work must be handled immediately. School policy allows for one day per excused absence to turn in the missed work. THE STUDENT, NOT THE TEACHER, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING HIS/HER OWN MAKE-UP ASSIGNMENT. Tests must be made up immediately!

Make-up test days will be TUESDAY at 2:05. If you miss a test it will be your responsibility to make that test up immediately or come to the makeup test day. Failure to make up the test as scheduled will result in a "0" for the test grade

Grading

Major writing assignments, including research papers and portfolios, will relieve a 50% reduction for one day late and a "0" after that.

Homework will not be taken late.

This year we will be studying the evolution of American literature and many of America's great writers. We will be strengthening writing skills and preparing for the demands of college requirements. Be prepared, be respectful, be positive. This year can be the best year of your high school experience. I look forward to having you in my class and to a successful and productive school year.
