CLASS INFORMATION

Supplies

All textbooks MUST be covered throughout the school year. Lost or damaged books must be paid for before the student can be issued a new textbook or receive his/her grade. When the textbook is issued the student will note any damage to the book on the textbook receipt and sign the receipt. Students must bring their textbook to class each day. Students may be issued workbooks. Replacement cost of workbooks is $5.00 each. A major grade will be taken from the workbooks each semester and workbooks will be graded periodically during each quarter.
Students will need the following supplies:

Hard three ring binder with clear pocket on front (1.5 inches; use only for this class)
Five section dividers
Loose leaf notebook paper (wide rule)
Blue or black ink pen
Colored pencils
Textbook cover (nylon sock type)
I suggest that students have a USB flash storage device for use in all their classes. (Minimum of 512 MB suggested.)

Class Procedures

All written work MUST be done in pen. Blue or black ink pens are the only acceptable ink. Students may NEVER write on the back of their paper. Work on the back will not be graded.
All papers must be neat and legible with student name, date, class period in the upper right hand corner of the paper. The title of the assignment is required on the top line of the paper. (ex. Ch. 1 Vocabulary)
Students are required to keep a notebook with all bellwork, notes, daily work, class work and graded papers for the duration of each six weeks. This notebook is graded each six weeks.
The course grade will be determined by the following: notebook, workbooks, class participation, homework, class work, workbooks, projects and tests. Point values will be designated for each assignment. The nine weeks grade will consist of the student's percentage of points possible. (ex: 870 points earned out of a possible 1000 points, 870/1000 = 87%) Turn in all assignments on time. LATE WORK WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

- B..............85-92
- C..............75-84
- D..............70-74
- F..............Below 70
If students need extra help, I am available for tutoring by appointment on Wednesdays from 2:00 - 2:45. Students and parents are encouraged to make an appointment for a conference to discuss any problems that may develop during the year. Contact the guidance department for an appointment. The school number is 853-3310.

Make-up Work

Students are responsible for making up work missed due to excused absences. Check the class web page for your assignments. A folder will be maintained in class with any handouts needed. Ask a member of your class for the bellwork questions missed.
If the assignment is made when the student is present, it is due on the day the student returns to class. For each day of an excused absence, one day will be given to complete the make-up work. Unexcused absences will result in a zero for each missed assignment.
Students who are absent for any preplanned school sponsored event (field trip, sports activity, band, chorus, speech contest, etc.) are responsible for informing me several days ahead of time and getting their assignment before they are gone. If the field trip is a local event, student work is due the day they return to class and students will be required to take any quiz or test planned for that day.
If you miss class by checking in or out, bring by any work that was due on that day.
If a student is present when a test or assignment is announced the student will be expected to take the test or turn in the assignment if they are present on the due date. Tests missed due to an excused absence will require a make-up test. Make-up tests will be given from 6:30 - 7:00 a.m. on Tuesdays and 2:05 - 2:45 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays. You must let me know in advance of the make-up session you plan to attend. Students will have only the three make-ups immediately following a missed test to make-up that test. Failure to do so will result in a zero.

Class Behavior Code

Be in your seat working on bellwork by the time the bell begins to ring
.At all times exhibit Honesty, Courtesy, Respect and Responsibility.
Students will not be permitted to leave during class unless they are ill and need to go to the office. Use your time between classes for locker, restroom, and water fountain visits.
Follow all CHS and Shelby County Schools rules.
Class will be dismissed by the teacher….never the bell.
Cheating in any form is a violation of the school Honor Code and will be punished according to school policy. School policy requires an automatic zero with no make-up allowed. Parents will be notified and a discipline referral will be made to an administrator.

Consequences:
1st Time: Student receives warning
2nd Time: Student / Teacher conference.
3rd Time: Phone call to parent.
4th Time: Counselor referral.
5th Time: Parent / Teacher conference with the counselor.
SEVERE CLAUSE: Immediate discipline referral to the Assistant Principal.
