Class Rules:

Class Materials:

Advanced Algebra Trig:       3-ring binder with lots and lots and lots of paper!

            PENCILS NOT PENS

A graphing calculator is required for Advanced Algebra.  I prefer the TI-83 Plus or TI-84.  The TI-89 & TI-92 are not permitted.  (To be used at teacher discretion.)

Algebra I:       3-ring binder with lots and lots and lots of paper!

                        PENCILS NOT PENS

Calculator: A simple scientific calculator will be used at  teacher

discretion. There is no need to purchase an expensive calculator.

Absences:  When you are absent, please refer to my webpage to find out what assignments you have missed.  I will update the assignments page daily.

Bellwork:(1 Ð 5 pts)  Bellwork will be posted on the white board daily.  Students should begin bellwork immediately without having to be instructed to do so.  Bellwork will be graded randomly.

Homework Portfolio: (100 pts) Homework will be assigned daily and should be completed before returning to class.  Each Friday, three of the weeks hw assignments should be placed in the portfolio and will be graded at 3 points per assignment. Any assignments over the three will receive a grade of 1/2 point. Work must be shown to receive credit. Portfolio grades will be updated on PowerSchool every three weeks. Each day, class time will be devoted to reviewing the previous nights homework.

Quizzes:  (10 pts) Students should expect to have a quiz, announced or not, several times each week.  There will be no make-ups for missed quizzes.

Tests:  (100pts) Tests will be announced at least two days in advance.

*If a student fails a test, they may retake the test if they meet the following requirements:

1.     The student must have completed the review work required for the original test.

2.     The student must attend tutoring to correct the missed test questions.

3.     The corrections and retake test must take place within one week of the original test.

4.     Once the test has been retaken, the student will receive the higher of the two grades up to a 70.

Drop Grades:  Two per nine weeks:  1.  The homework portfolio shows that three assignments have been turned in each week of the quarter.  2. Students who are present for every quiz within the 9 weeks grading period.

Grading System:  Total Points -  To calculate the students average, divide the total points earned by the total points available and multiply by 100.

Tutoring:  Wednesday 6:25 Ð 6:55a.m.  See webpage for additional tutoring sessions.

Make-up Test Days: The procedure to make up tests is a simple one.  When you miss a test make an appointment with Mrs. Loden to makeup the test the week following the absence. When a student fails to attend a scheduled make-up session for any reason other than an excused absence on the makeup day and has not discussed an alternative with me first, that test grade will be recorded as a zero.   Remember, it is the students responsibility to see Mrs. Loden to set up the makeup time.

Students, I am looking forward to a very productive and successful year.  Please know that I have high expectations for every one of you.  I expect you to be responsible for your own actions, I expect you to have a strong work ethic, I expect you to ask questions no matter how simple or hard that question may be, and I expect you to be successful in my math class.  I am going to do my part and I know you will do yours.

Parents, please feel free to email or call me at the high school anytime. If you choose to call, please leave a phone number where you can be reached.  Email is most likely the best way to reach me and receive the fastest response. Finally, thank you for taking the time to read this letter.  I look forward to a successful year with your student.

Both students and parents, please take the time to bookmark my webpage.  On it you will find a link to this letter so you can reference it throughout the year in case you have questions that can be answered within its contents.  Finally please sign and date the attached sheet and return to me.

Sincerely,
