This class will be offered first semester and there is summer work which will be turned in on the first day of school. AP Comparative Government is a one-semester college survey course that provides students with a coherent knowledge of global studies by evaluating five world political systems: Great Britain, the former Soviet Union and Russia, China, Nigeria, Iran, and Mexico. Content is organized around a country-to -country format, with six systems explored in detail. Much of the information in the course comes from student reading of classic and current literature in the field. Emphasis in class is on lecture and discussion; student analysis and writing are also strongly emphasized. With this study, students will comprehend the vast diversity of political structures, its practices, and how these societies fit into the global realm.
AP Grades are weighted. You will receive five bonus points that will be added to the nine weeks grade. Since students are also asking colleges to accept college credit for the class, much of the evaluation is determined by student writing and analysis. Generally, grades are determined through tests (both multiple choice and essay formats) and reading analyses (usually one or two typed pages) Also, there will be group assignments which will include library research.
