Grades have been updated for you--you might check later in the day (to give my co-workers time to send changes to the server). Some of you have chosen not to work--your grades reflect this.

Two homework grades this week: a) a signed interim (by you and your parent/guardian) due on Thursday of this week. I will update recipes on Tuesday during class. b) research one of the following three fast food institutions (McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's). Week of April 9

Hello Desktop Publishing. My husband is doing better. We are home now, but the recovery process will continue for a while. The plan is for me to return sometime during the week of April 16.

Thank you for getting the printers/computer cut on and logged in at the beginning of the day. The sub has papers to return to you. Grades have been updated (a teacher from our hallway will make sure the changes I have made are sent to the server).

One assignment this week (at random) will count as a homework grade. Turn in work every day to sub. Print a directions sheet from my webpage on top of the work. For any work you do in Microsoft Word, remember to put in your header information (name, date, time). Turn in work to sub every day--completed or not.

Some have not finished your recipes from last M-W--be working on those during announcements. Some of you did not turn in anything!!!! One recipe has an unacceptable product in it so find a new one--everyone has to have the same one remember! We will do a grade update upon my return.

1) You have been asked by Dr. Keith Lancaster, a specialist in retirement planning, to help him get ready for an upcoming meeting. He will be giving a lecture about investing for the future, targeted toward those nearing retirement age. At the end of his lecture, he will answer questions from the audience.

a) the first project for Dr. Lancaster is to make a flyer to advertise the lecture. Information needed for this: Guest Speaker for Collierville Civics Organization. Date: April 22, 2007. Time: 12:00 p.m. Location: Building B, Room 75 Town Hall, Collierville. On the flyer make sure you tell what Dr. Lancaster will be discussing. Include a subject and graphic for the flyer.

He will be giving out business cards at the meeting so make up a card for him: Company: Lancaster and Associates; name: Dr. Keith Lancaster. TItle: Retirement Specialist. Address: 5454 Main Street, Suite 7B. Southaven, MS 38567. Phone: 662-555-5555. Fax 662-555-5665. Email: klanc@mail.com. Add a logo and motto to the card.

Use the Internet to see if you can find any retirement planning information. Don't use any sites that require you give info about yourself. I would like to have ten handwritten facts about retirement or retirement planning. After you ten facts, list any URL sites you used.

2) Graduation Party Invitation. You are going to plan a graduation party for one lucky CHS senior. We have several seniors in our class (or you can select another senior that you know. For the seniors in our class, don't select yourself--select a fellow senior graduate to be.

As you begin to plan the invitation, decide what you want as far as the fold on the invitation--do you want a single, unfolded sheet of paper or do you want a folded card. Look at any designs or templates available on MPublisher--if I remember correctly there is a template for invitation. Create a mock-up for the invitation before you begin any actual creating/designing. Write comments or ideas on the mock-up.

For an invitation you will need some basic information: who (the senior honoree), what (type of party), when (I will let you select the time, where (you select the appropriate location), party dress style (casual, formal, specific colors, etc.).

Besides creating an actual invitation itself, I would like for you to give me some other information (you can put this in a paragraph, table, bullet listing, etc. format. What will be a theme for your party (for example my granddaughter's 4th birthday party had a Disney Princess theme)? What colors will you use for your theme? What will you serve (make me a general list and of course there will be no alcoholic beverages on your list)?

You might want to check out some places on the Internet (we have several local stores in Shelby County that carry party supplies--Party City, etc.) to get ideas from. Print out copies of theme backgrounds, etc. as you find them on the Internet.

After your mock-up and other information completed, create/design the actual invitation.

You will be turning in today the following: mock-up invitation, general information about the party, and the actual invitation.

3) Reminder Document--I want you to decide how this should look--but please do not put everything in one box. A subject line should be on the document that says Reminder!

Other information to include: The annual Leadership Association Meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 22, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Our records indicates that you have not yet registered.

Please register no later than April 15 so that you don't miss out on this great event!

Register now or you'll miss the following:

Guest speaker (your name); Election of officers; lunch.

Call 555-5555 to register now or e-mail at lshipassoc@cville.com

Include a graphic or so (no more than 3 graphics--pay attention to your fonts).

Once this document is done-print it out. Now, totally change how it looks--the wording stays the same but you can change the font/style, order, etc. Print out the second document.

Create an e-mail that you would send to me to tell me about the this meeting (key it in MWord). E-mails should be short and straight to the point.

Look on the school day calendar of events--see when the next faculty meeting is scheduled (there should be one on the calendar, but if not pick a Monday to have a meeting. Dr. Setterlund has the following items on agenda: Accreditation Visit, Reception for Accreditation Representatives, Tardies, Exam. This meeting is required. The faculty meeting will be in Library. Teachers bring your laptops. Dr. Setterlund has information in the Faculty Drop Box to review. The meeting begins at 2:20 and will be over by 3:00. Prepare a reminder for this meeting similar to your format for the first document today.

Prepare a flyer for a meeting at work. For those of you who work, it should be easy to come up with ideas about a meeting. For those of you who have not worked, check with a buddy (quietly of course) to see what might be discussed at a work meeting. You come up with the details.

To turn in today: 4 flyers reminders about meetings. Print out a directions sheet to staple on top of your work.

4) You are to select an international country (not the U. S.). Research information (handwritten) on the following items: 5 history facts about the country; the climate--at least 5 facts about the climate; the government--at least 5 facts about the government; the people--at least 5 facts about the people; 5 facts about the customs of the country

After handwriting the facts, key the information into MWord in paragraph format (DS, tab indent, word wrap). Put your margins on 1 inch top, bottom, left, and right.

Do not turn in anything today--you will be turning in this information on Friday along with other work.

5) Create a poster for your country you researched yesterday (there should be some oversized construction paper in the room that is out--if not just tape together several sheets of color paper). It is not required that you include everything from your research on to your poster although you could.

You will be graded as follows: The poster has a subject. The poster has at least three graphics. The poster has use of at least three different font styles. The poster materials are appropriately balanced on the paper. The poster makes use of at least five different desktop publishing elements (please write these on the back of the poster for me (items that you could include might be: a drawing, word art, graphics, drop cap, background designs, etc. Even if you used more than one from each, you may only count it once as part of your five items---for example you have three graphics--that will only count as one of your desktop publishing elements.

The overall appearance of your poster will count 31 points. I need to look at it and go wow! Make use of various color papers and placement of such on your poster itself.

Today turn in: poster, handwritten facts from prior day, keyed facts from prior day--staple these items to the back of the poster. (There should be glue in the room, but if not, ask Mrs. Burford or Mrs. Kaplowitz if they have any we can borrow just for period 1--say thank you and someone return at the end of the period.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

Week of April 2

Hello Desktop Publishing--I am out with my husband for a while ( I will be arranging to have your work delivered to me so I can take grades). Arrangements will be made to have your graded materials returned to you. Grades will be updated. Upon my return, we will discuss make up working, serving time for gum chewing, etc

Make sure you save your recipes, but print out a copy for me. Turn in all 15 recipes listed (plus your casserole background) on Wednesday to the sub. Turn the printers on every morning and log on all computers. Someone cut Channel 19 each morning.

Each individual will find a recipe--each person will key in the recipe in Microsoft Word and print out 16 copies (one for each class member and a copy for me--just give to the sub. Put your name on the recipe.) You will have 15 new recipes. You will need to make a background for casserole background. Use MPublisher as before in your designing.

2) continue working on your 15 recipes

3) continue working on your 15 recipes; turn in to sub all 15 recipes plus the casserole background. I will take 2-3 grades from this work.

4) Mr. Kirby (our Automotive Industries teacher) is going to open a auto repair business on the side. He wants ideas for a catchy name for his business (make a listing of at least three possible names for him). He needs a motto as well (make a listing of at least three possible mottos for him). Make a decision on which item is the best name/motto and tell me why you selected it (don't share your ideas with your classmates--remember they are the competition!). Mr. Kirby needs: stationery (name of business, address, telephone number, logo, motto, and any other items you feel are necessary). Make him a business card too.
