Being an artist is like being a musician or an athlete.....YOU MUST practice on a regular basis...sometimes...daily. In addition to classroom assignments, Students in Art III and AP will be required to keep a sketch book (11 x 14 - 100 sheets) and turn them in on a weekly basis. Each week a different assignment/theme/topic will be given. It will be up to the student to determine style, media and subject matter for each assignment unless specified. Students often say " When do I get to draw what I want too?" Well now is the chance to do so. You will have one week to complete the assignment. Sketchbooks are to be treated as individual pieces of artwork. Things to consider for each assignment: Use DIRECT OBSERVATION for references. Composition use entire page, Elements of Art, Principles of Design and Relating to theme/topic Artwork must be in your sketchbook and in order. Only skip one page for a cover sheet. Do not turn in on loose paper unless approved by teacher. Please use this sketch book for more than your weekly assignments. Treat it as a journal of your artwork. You may use it to jot down project ideas, place to doodle or to make preliminary drawings for projects.
Sketchbooks will be due every Wednesday at the beginning of the class period. Late sketchbooks will not be accepted at all. If you have an excused absence on Tuesday, you may turn in sketch book on your date of return. Keep in mind that you will have aprox. 9 assignments a nine weeks. Failure to complete just one will bring your grade down.
