ART III - BURFORD
Welcome to the wonderful world of ART! I am delighted that you have chosen to take this class. I believe that a student who elects to take an art course beyond Art I is truly interested
in the visual arts and is committed to learning all that he/she can during the year. I have high expectations of you and know you will be prepared, act responsible and give an honest effort in this class. Read, absorb and retain the following information.
ART III
Art three is an advanced level continuation of drawing and painting methods, media and multi-media exploration, techniques, creative self expression and art awareness.
This advanced level course is not recommended for students earning less than a strong B average in Art II.
1ST QUARTER - DIRECT OBSERVATION DRAWINGS (various media)
2ND QUARTER - CHALK PASTEL/OIL STICK & ACRYLIC PAINTING
3RD QUARTER - PRINTMAKING (exploring a variety of techniques)
4TH QUARTER - MIX MEDIA/PAINTING/OBSERVATION DRAWINGS
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Abide by all rules set fourth by teacher, Collierville High School and Shelby County Schools.
2. Complete and hand in assignments.
3. Complete 1 Gallery Visitation each nine weeks. Late work WILL NOT be accepted.
4. Complete weekly sketch book assignment. Late work WILL NOT be accepted.
5. Follow directions and criteria set by teacher.
6. Pay the art fee of $45.00 by date assigned. Checks made payable to Collierville High School Art Dept.
7. Replenish the necessary supplies by date assigned from reliable sources.
8. Allow the teacher to teach and classmates to learn.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
1. Enter, get supplies and be seated
2. Complete bell work assignment
3. Read daily objectives
4. Listen to instructions
5. Work quietly on projects
6. Review
7. Check board for homework
8. Clean up when teacher calls time
CRITERIA FOR GRADING
1. Every assignment will be graded, including small preliminary exercises
2. Everything must be turned in on the due date. Dates are announced well in advance. Failure to meet deadlines will result in a grade of Zero.
3. Each assignment will have specific evaluation criteria unique to the assignment. In addition to the evaluation criteria, each assignment will be evaluated on these three constants: Composition, Craftsmanship and Creative Self Expression.
YOUR GRADE
1. 50%-Project Grade: The project grade is very similar to a unit test score. This grade measures the students understanding and mastery of specific concepts within the visual language.
2. 35%-Daily Grade: The daily grade is based on daily task completion. This may be preliminary drawings, weekly bell work and quizzes.
3. 15%-Participation Grade: The participation grade in based on the students active involvement within the class. This grade measures whether the student is on task or not. If the student is not prepared for class (breaking rule #2), it reflects on the participation grade.
*Gallery Visitations will be counted as a project grade. Written papers will be project or daily grade based on the level of difficulty.
Extra Credit
Extra credit can be earned by visiting museums and galleries, extra projects and by volunteering artistic abilities to the community or school. Forms will be provided. Extra credit WILL NOT substitute for any assignment but is an addition to. Extra credit will not be accepted one week prior to the end of the six weeks.
